A little piece of family history from 1968. I was not even born yet. I love that the writer included some text from the Breed Standard in the article! I have cut-pasted the article (with typos included) below and also included the photocopy so you can see the pictures of Mike and Misty. I have corrected the spelling of the names of Mike’s parents.

Golden Retrievers Co-Winners, SRKC Dog-Of-Month Selection
Bureau County Republican, September 26, 1968
This month we have two Golden Retrievers for the dog of the month from the Starved Rock Kennel Club. Walter Scherer, Ottawa, is the proud owner of two Goldens. One is Champion Celloyd Golden Mist C. D. (Misty). Sire is Champion Celloyd Golden Rory, the dam is Celloyd Dawn. The other is Bonnie Brooks Mike (Mike). His sire is Jolly Again of Ouilmette C. D., his dam is Indian Knolls Memengwa C.D. Mike holds the National Golden Retriever Champion in Field Trials in 1967. He is one of the finest young dogs running field trials in the country. Walt besides running his dogs in field trials computation also shows his Goldens in Conformation, Obedience Shows.
The Golden Retriever is in the Sporting group and they are a double coated dog which means they have an undercoat which should be dense and water resistant. Their outer coat flat or wavy and a rich golden-brown. The Golden is a very intelligent, even-tempered and trainable dog and has a keen scenting power.
He is an excellent worker on upland game, and his love of water endears him to the duck hunter. He has a very tender mouth which makes him great for retrieving birds without hurting them.
He is a very powerfully built, well boned dog. His fine disposition and handsomeness makes the Golden a pet as well as a show dog. He is also highly regarded as a seeingeye dog.
